St Laurences Church, Upton
Project type
Church
St Laurence’s Church, Upton is a remarkable Grade I listed building, set just outside Slough and rich in architectural history. The church’s early 12th-century tower, later altered in 1906, stands alongside a late 12th-century nave and chancel, creating a beautifully layered medieval complex.
Significant 19th- and early 20th-century interventions also shape the building as we see it today, including the south aisle and vestry added in 1850–51 by Benjamin Ferrey, and a further vestry in 1910.
One of the church’s most striking features is its recently conserved medieval painted vaults, which are extraordinarily impressive and a rare survival.
This year we carried out the Quinquennial Inspection and have been supporting the parish as they explore adaptations to move toward Net Zero by 2030, in line with the Church of England’s environmental commitments—a sensitive balance of heritage conservation and sustainable design.
A church of exceptional history, beauty, and forward-looking stewardship.
