Great Missenden Church
Project type
Church
St Peter & St Paul’s is a Grade I listed church with roots firmly in the medieval landscape. Built mainly in the 14th century and heightened in the 15th, the church has continued to grow and adapt over time, with additions to the tower in the 16th century and again in 1732, followed by restoration and a north-east addition at the turn of the 20th century.
Constructed with sarsen stone footings, flint rubble, ashlar dressings and large amounts of clunch, the church’s character is both robust and beautiful. Inside, a fine nave arcade and an impressive 15th-century timber roof speak of craftsmanship and care that have endured for centuries.
Today, that tradition continues. We are currently working with the Buildings Group at St Peter & St Paul’s on proposals for a significant new extension to the south of the church. This will provide a café, youth church space, WCs, a larger kitchen, and a parish office—supporting the church’s growing programme of events and youth work.
The project also creates an opportunity to move towards net-zero, with potential photovoltaic panels and a renewed heating strategy, helping ensure the church remains both sustainable and welcoming for generations to come. The scheme is at an early stage, with consultation with the DAC planned for the new year.
